Calderon

Calderon. Cocina Tapas Y Bebidas. | Paella Valenciana. Chori-Gambas. Tres Marias. Calamares Fritos. Salpicao. Churros Con Chocolate. | “Authentic home-style Spanish food, Tapas, Sangrias, Wines & Beers.” The Paella Valenciana is a hearty rice dish comes with chicken, mussels, prawns and delicious mix of vegetables. Its rich, moist & flavorful. The shrimps, mussels & chicken makes it more delicious. The Chori-Gambas is an exciting & flavorful gambas and chorizo de Pamplona combination, sure to please both shrimp & chorizo lovers. The chorizo de Pamplona has a smooth texture & a bit salty. It really goes well with the shrimp which is succulent & sweet. The Tres Marias is a delicious trio of savory dips of Pimentos, Liver, Tinapa (Smoked Fish) with Cream Cheese and served with slightly toasted bread. I like the Tinapa with Cream cheese. Its a bit salty, smoky in flavor, soft & mildly tangy. The Pimentos, my second favorite dip..it gives a mildly sweet taste. The bread was ok may be a good bread will make this dish more tasty. The Calamares Fritos a fried crispy squid rings with their housemade aioli dip. It was just an ordinary dish nothing spectacular maybe a squeeze of lemon will do great especially on their dip. The Salpicao is a beef tenderloin cubes in a special marinade, quickly sauteed in oilive oil and topped with garlic bits. It was actually so good. The beef was tender, really melts in your mouth & flavorful. For dessert, Churros con Chocolate.. A classic dessert pastry with cinnamon sugar & a cup of delicious nutty chocolate dip. I was expecting more about their dessert. The chocolate dip was sweet for me though it was smooth & thick. | A hole in the wall resto that is small & has an old fashioned homey ambiance. I will definitely come back to try their Cheese Platter & Pollo Iberico which requires an advance order of 1 day. By the way, they have limited parking space so patience is a must. | Located at 403 F. Calderon Street, San Juan, Metro Manila.
