Original Soju Jinro

Tasting The Original Soju JINRO

Do you remember the scene where Yoon Se-ri and Ri Jeong Hyeok were drinking Korean soju on Se-ri’s house with bottles of original soju on the side? Or those Samgyeopsal nights in Itaewon Class where Park Sae-ro-yi and Jo Yi-seo seem to start getting closer to each other? Or maybe you remember how Korean soju was displayed on What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim during a night hang?

May it be happy or sad, or all about chismisan, Korean soju is always on any Kdrama’s table; and now, it’s a regular to the Filipino dining table as well. With all the Kdrama’s showing off their cuisine in all our favorite shows, our curiosity drove all these grilled meat and green bottles on our table. Remember the Korean Fire Noodle Challenge? It is one of the trends that prompted us to taste some Korean food to which pretty much matched our palettes and Korean soju as well.

Moreover, the craze for Korean soju and Korean food expanded when Samgyeopsal restaurants came in one-by-one offering unlimited grilled pork, chicken, and beef. You would also notice the fridge full of Korean soju and Korean ice cream to break your meat-overload. All this enculturation of the Korean-way has brought us the love for Korean soju. We’ve also come to love the original soju flavor – less sweet yet so authentic.

The Love for Original Soju

Commonly, different brands of Korean soju offer different flavors like peach, grapefruit, and green grapes, to which some would claim they’re as sweet as fruit juice. But together with original Korean food, we’d say that original soju still pair best. Therefore, we chose the Jinro’s Chamisul Original and Chamisul Fresh. Nothing beats original soju when it comes to original Korean food.

Having the original soju reminds me of vodka because like vodka, soju’s got quite a strong taste. The defining factor is that Korean soju is sweeter. Probably why it tasted perfect with our meat-loaded meal – it’s the breaker you needed. Initially, you’ll feel a subtle hint of bitterness in your original soju but that ends with a sweet taste. Feel the kick and strength even more when you drink a big amount. For us, the best part? It still leaves you the signature sweet taste of Korean soju.

For those who want to imitate those rainy Kdrama scenes drinking your soju alone, consider yourself warned — even if Korean soju come in small bottles, two could already make you tipsy (still depends on your alcohol tolerance). For me, I stopped with my second bottle. The thing with Korean soju is that they’re sweet so you tend to forget how much you’ve had so you keep going; or sometimes, you just want some more because you yearn for its sweet taste.

Still, I’d say withstanding more than two bottles already makes you quite a drinker. But who would say no to a good, refreshing, sweet alcoholic drink on your hay day? Or who would say no to a good drink that would make you feel better on a depressing day? Either of the two, the original soju got you covered.

Original Soju Jinro

Pair it with Korean Soju

Jinro Chamisul Original Soju and Jinro Chamisul Fresh Soju come in a 360mL bottles and retail at P149 each. With its definitive sweet taste and sulit price, it has become one of the the highest-selling spirits in the world. So we guess that Korean enculturation is not only brought by Kdrama or KPop or KBeauty, it is also brought by Korean soju. And having Korean food paired with Jinro’s original soju will bring you to have a taste of an authentic Korean flavor and Korean feel on any night.

We’d say this is one of the best Korean drinks for our random Kdrama nights, Samgyeopsal dinner, or even a night cap from work.
