Nigella Lawson: A True Contadina Woman

When Del Monte is cooking up something new and their brand endorser is the Domestic Goddess, Nigella Lawson, who am I to say no!? She can cook, loves to eat and I can’t wait to see her. I’m so excited! Last September 6, 2016 the day I saw her, she talked about Fiipino food and how she really loves it. She mentioned that she ate sinigang, sisig, menudo and even tasted 9 different adobo which she will cook when she comes home. And she really likes putting calamansi on everything and loves spicy food (like me).

Del Monte launched the brand Contadina last September 6, 2016. It is an Italian word which means “woman of the fields”, who is very particular and discriminating about the quality of ingredients she uses for home-cooked meals that she loves to prepare. The only person that reflects this quality is the renowned Food Writer and Television Personality, Nigella Lawson. She solds over 10 million copies of her cookbooks worldwide, learned her ways in the kitchen through experiencing the world around her. “I am not a Chef, she said, “I am not even trained or professional cook. My qualification is as an eater.”

With Filipinos fast becoming global citizens evident in the evolving local culinary scene, Del Monte Philippines brings in Contadina, a brand of authentic ingredients that feeds every foodie’s passion of re-creating flavours from their travel and food adventures. Del Monte Philippines fell in love with the Contadina brand and decided to bring it to the Philippines whilst extending its portfolio of products at the same time.

The Contadina line now consists of an array of Mediterranean cuisine essentials – olive oils, canned tomatoes, pasta and pasta sauces, all made of the finest quality, sourced from the world’s best-producing regions to deliver truly, authentic flavours.

The quality that Contadina brings lies in its ingredients’ origins — olive oils made with Hojiblanca olives, hand-picked from the groves of Andalucia, Spain, canned tomatoes made with sweet, luscious Roma Tomatoes from the fields of California, pasta made with 100% Canadian Durum Wheat Semolina known for its fine texture and creamy colour straight from the western prairie provinces of Canada, and pasta sauces using authentic Grana Padano cheese and Italian herbs creating a very fresh and flavourful taste that only be expected from a true Italian-made sauce.

Contadina is perfect for culinary enthusiasts whro bring passion into their cooking – those who understand that the rich and authentic medley of flavours can only come from the finest ingredients. During the event there’s a cook-off. Stepanie Zubiri, Daphne Oseña-Paez and Chef JP Anglo helped us cook by using Contadina products. I belong to Stepahnie Zuburi’s team.

Our team’s dish was Penne with Eggplant in Contadina Roasted Garlic Tomato Sauce spiced with Harissa then topped with Crispy Morocan Lamb and crumbled Feta.

Nigella says, “I think it’s very important to be able to trust your own instinct, and cook in a way that pleases you, whatever you say!” It’s not fancy techniques or huge amount of components that make the dish. Her partnership with the Contadina brand is premised on a single proposition: “For my cooking, I have no secret ingredients. I make sure I use the ingredients that are best for me. That’s why I’m proud to be partnering with Contadina.”

What I like about her is that in her kitchen there are No Rules and it’s all about family and fun. She believes cooking is good for one’s sense calmness and self. She loves simplicity in cooking. She said, “It’s so nice to be able to cook with a handful of ingredients, most of which you can have at home and which doesn’t require you to challenge yourself ate the end of a busy day.”

Contadina products will be available on October 7, 2016 nationwide (Philippines Market).
