Food and Hotel Asia 2016

FHA2016, Asia’s comprehensive food and hospitality industry event will bring together more than 3,000 exhibitors from around the world to showcase a range of the latest products and ingredients, equipment and supplies, and best-of-breed services. the four-day exhibition from April 12 – 15, 2016 at the Singapore Expo, organised by Singapore Exhibition Services, provides a strong platform and opportunities for Philippine food and hospitality business owners to meet, network and exchange best practices and perspectives with regional and international industry players.

Filipino organisations and companies such as DLA Naturals Inc, Miesto International Foods Corporation, Shanghai Global Corp., and Sweet Serenity Flavoring Syrup will be showcasing their products and services at FHA2016. The Philippine Department of Agriculture will also be leading a group of exhibitors to the event. Filipino companies that have pre-registered to attend FHA2016 include the Bistro Group, D Creative Food Group, the Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines, MacroAsia Catering Services, Solaire Casino and Resort and Vanguard Hotels, among others. The Association of Purchasing Manager of Hotels & Restaurants of the Philippines and the Food Caterers Association of the Philippines will also be organising group delegations to the event.

“Food has now become an immersive experience, so it takes more than just a compelling menu, great service or captivating ambience to keep customers loyal,” comments Ms. Lisa Ronquillo, AVP for Marketing, Bistro Group, at a press conference today. “FHA2016 will help give us the advantage we need to remain competitive and unique insights on new market opportunities that will allow us to innovate our business.”

“The ongoing ASEAN economic integration presents significant prospects for Philippine companies in the food and hospitality industries. FHA2016 presents these enterprises with a unique opportunity to network and establish trade relationships with players in the region and the rest of the world. The Department of Agriculture, which has been supporting FHA over the past few editions, sees the event as an important and relevant business platform, especially for the companies they will be leading to Singapore,” adds Ms. Ting Siew Mui, Project Director of Lifestyle Events at Singapore Exhibition Services.

FHA2016 will feature six specialised exhibitions, namely FoodAsia, HotelAsia, SpecialityCoffee&Tea, Bakery&Pastry, HospitalityStyleAsia and HospitalityTechnology, each with their own unique themes and areas of focus. In addition to the competitions, self-guided trails and a Halal supermarket will be launched at FHA2016 for the first time as well, offering an encompassing holistic experience.

 

FHA Culinary Challenge (FCC) – where highest standards are attained

Besides seeking to expand their brand and improve their business operations through sourcing for new products and innovative technologies at Food&HotelAsia2016 (FHA2016) – Asia’s most important and comprehensive industry tradeshow, Philippine food and hospitality businesses are also looking to build on capabilities by upgrading employees’ knowledge and skills. And they are doing so at FHA. Beyond the event’s exhibition grounds are a host of international and regional competitions such as the renowned FHA Culinary Challenge (FCC).

Strong Philippine contingent on the competition front

The FCC is the region’s most prestigious international culinary competition dedicated to the promotion of culinary excellence. With strong support from the World Association of Chef Societies and the regional chef associations, it is the ultimate arena for hundreds of budding culinary talents from around the world to display their masterly skills and be accredited by a panel of internationally acclaimed chefs.

A total of eight culinary teams from the Philippines will be vying for the top spot in several categories of FCC. This includes the Sweet High Tea Challenge, a new and exciting addition to FHA’s biennial cooking competition. Open to teams from hotels, restaurants, confectionaries, airlines, culinary training institutes or catering establishments, this Challenge is a reflection of the high popularity of high tea dining in food and hotel establishments across the region.

Professional cooks and chefs, as well as students and teaching staff from the country’s leading culinary schools will be fielding contenders, with Lyceum of the Philippines University sending the biggest contingent comprising 16 contestants. Other teams include Center for Culinary Arts-Manila, Coffee Empire, National Culinary Team Philippines, Pacific Apex Food Venture, St. Anne College-Lucena, University of Santo Tomas and Vikings Davao.

Celebrated Filipino pastry chef and founder of Park Avenue Desserts, Mr. Buddy Trinidad has been selected to be among the panel of judges for the FCC, and will be expecting a higher level of competition from all the participating teams.

“The modern palate has become increasingly sophisticated,” says Mr. Trinidad. “With the emergence of new techniques and ingredients as well as the availability of advanced cooking technologies, today’s dishes have become ever more creative and bold. There will be immense pressure on all teams to perform at their best, as this year’s competition will be a true test of not just skill but imagination as well.”

Also speaking at the press conference today, Mr. James Antolin, leader of the National Culinary Team Philippines says, “The FCC has always been one of the regional competitions we look forward to participating in every time. Not only does it give us the opportunity to pit our skills against other teams from the region and even the world, it also gives us the chance to learn from the panel of judges and other competitors.”

In addition to the FCC, there will be a host of other intense, prestigious competitions targeting professionals from specific groups and sectors of the food and hospitality industry such as the FHA Barista Challenge 2016, the CTI Latte Art Duel @ FHA and Asian Pastry Cup 2016 forming part of the holistic experience attendees will get at FHA2016.

 

FHA2016 International Conference – Platform for knowledge transfer

Held in conjunction with the exhibition, the FHA2016 International Conference will discuss key new trends in the hotels and resort management, food services and food manufacturing industries. Joint plenary sessions featuring CEO Insights, Stakeholders Panel Discussions and think tanks will see leading international experts from AccorHotels, CBRE Hotels, Cornell University, InterContinental Hotels Group, PT Panorama Land Development, Sinar Mas Land, Unlisted Collection, to name a few, sharing their perspectives and views on the latest trends in the food and hospitality sectors. To complement the international conference programme, five new workshops and two site visits have been incorporated into the 2016 agenda, ensuring an unparalleled learning environment for delegates.

 

Debut of ProWine ASIA 2016

The demand for alcoholic beverages is on the rise across the region and international exporters are looking at Southeast Asian markets to grow their product lines. To help address these industry trends and provide a ‘taste’ of the wine and spirits industry in Asia, ProWine ASIA 2016, the newest addition to the established ProWein series, will be held alongside FHA2016.

The inaugural four-day staging will be a valuable and opportune platform for industry players to network and close fruitful collaborations, with its impressive representation from all relevant wine producing nations and regions, including ‘newcomers’ to the international wine business. Trade attendees can also indulge in a myriad of tasting sessions, as well as educational and interactive master classes, seminars, lectures and presentations hosted by various industry thought leaders.
